The design idea behind the RE is to be able to offer a top level, lightweight steel framed road bike at a reasonable cost. In this day of $5K+ super bikes, the RE is a reasonably priced option. And you get the added benefit of the superior ride feel and durability of high-end steel.
- Columbus Spirit triple butted, heat treated tubing
- Carbon fork
- Internally routed rear brake cable
- Beautifully sculpted integrated seat post binder system
- Sub 19 lb steel framed race bike
The frame features the full Spirit tube set, including rear stays, all hand tig welded, with a fillet brazed integrated seat binder assembly, braze on mount for the front derailleur, and internal routing of the rear brake cable through the top tube. It's a closed system, a tube within a tube, so no problems with collecting moisture in the top tube (or fishing for loose cables). The fork is the same one used on the SE, with carbon blades and aluminum crown and steerer. It perfectly complements the ride feel and aesthetics of the frame.
The wheels are designed to be quite light (1650g/set) and responsive, with low profile rims for added shock absorption. And continuing with our philosophy of utilizing components that work well but don't have brand names and associated high prices, the RE has one of the more eclectic component groups out there. It's definitely not a status group, but it works beautifully. The heart of the drive train is the Microshift Centos 10 speed components out of Taiwan.
Complete weight of the 55cm size bike is 18.8 lbs (w/o pedals). Sorry, the frame is not compatible with the electronic shifting systems, but it is with any of the mechanical shift options on the market.
Note: Supplied with 700 x 23 tires, but will accept up to 27mm width as well.
