Wabi Thunder
The Wabi Thunder is a versatile build that can go Urban or Cross/Gravel. Using our Thunder frameset and wheelset, it takes wide tires (up to 50mm), lots of fender/rack options and a serious beating--all at under 20 lbs.
The current colors are Desert Turquoise, a medium turquoise, and Smoky Topaz, a dark pearlized bronze.
NOTE: We currently have limited stock on 49cm and 52cm options. We will have more stock on all sizes and colors this summer.

Description
The Wabi Urban/Cross Thunder features a hand-built, TIG-welded, Reynolds 725 frame, along with a great component group. All bearings are sealed—a low-maintenance relationship is guaranteed. Just keep air in the tires and a little lube on the chain. And ride!
Every bike is carefully assembled-to-order and packed at Wabi Cycles in Denver, Colorado.
- Reynolds 725 double-butted, heat-treated tubing, TIG-welded joints
- Tough, lightweight, responsive 700c 32-spoke wheels with flip-flop hubs.
- Total bike weight of about 20 lbs. (55cm size)
- Complete set of braze-ons for fenders and racks.
- 46t/18t freewheel (default on drive side) and fixed cog
- 35mm Kenda tire (Urban) or 32mm Kenda Small Block 8 tire (Cross).
- Note: Builds don't come with pedals or bottle cages as stock. They can be added as accessory during the checkout process.

Assembly. Note that our bikes come 90%+ assembled and most customers can assemble themselves. This saves you the time and cost of taking the bike to a bike shop for assembly. Note: 60cms build require more assembly as they need to be disassembled more than usual due to bike box size constraints.

Steel
We use Reynolds 725 and Columbus Spirit. These higher quality grades of steel allows us to use less of it, so you get a lighter, more responsive frame.
E.D Coating
Our steel frames are E.D. coated to act as a rust preventative and a primer. This high-performance rust inhibitor is applied inside the frame and out.
design
Wabi frames are road-designed with upright angles, and short wheelbases, which creates comfort, efficiency, and predictable handling. Our road frame design gives you an agile and fast ride.
Details
We love the detail of our frames. You'll find cast-brazed dropouts, machined head tubes, brazed seatpost collars, bottle cage eyelets, and brazed forks.

Not trying to sound like a bot, but i'm not, I promise, this is a genuine, non-suspicious review. I started off with a mercier kilo TT, a reliable, fun bike that was pretty interesting, with 'very' tight clearance for tires. Unfortunately, I needed a bike that could settle a more commute friendly bike. So I bought a $100 ******.... Boy, that was a rough couple of months. The coasting was hap hazard and terrible 'even though i'm used to fixed. It was without question, not rolling properly, the wheels being extremely out of true, rubbing on brakes, and being 'very' hard to ride. Needless to say, I was not having a good time while I waited patiently for my thunder. The ****** was also VERY heavy, like 35 or 40 pounds, despite being an aluminum bike. The derailer was going out, and it equated to a TERRIBLE time as the bike slowly began to eat into it's last few miles. Then I got the notification, and this **** of a commute's days were numbered. When I got the bike, the assembly was relatively quick, the front brake being way overthought as all you have to do is pull the metal tube into a bracket above the actual brake, after that, it was cake. Eager, I went for a test ride with the free wheel on. I had drop bars with the hoods attached (I never had before). To my surprise, this bike coasted, for a 'very' long time! I was actually kind of startled, as I expected it to come to a stop MUCH sooner than it had. I struggled to a stop embarrassingly, getting looks from various neighbors that had no idea what to surmise from the amateurish looking mistake. Overall, this bike is so good, that you have to be somewhat cautious about coming to a proper stop, requiring you to use the brakes. It starts off easy, coasts well, and weighs an IMPRESSIVELY light amount. Going from a piece of garbage to an actual bike is a revelation. So if you're thinking about it, need a bike for commuting on a somewhat questionable route, then I can't do much better than this quality piece of steel.

I was looking for a light weight single speed that could fit large tire. It was this or the Steamroller. I can say that I made the right choice. The Thunder is lighter, has larger tire clearance, and a little cheaper:)

I got into single speeds last year. started out with a $250 4130 chromoly frame from Bikes Direct to see if it was something that was for me. After a year or so of riding it, I felt I really loved the style of single speeds/fixed gears and wanted to go for something that was higher quality. I wasn't sure if the Thunder would be worth 4x the price but I did want to buy something that was "one of the best" after watching so much fixie content on the tube so the fact that this was made with Reynolds 720 and had great reviews on YT made me take the jump. Coming from the 4130 budget frame - this bike is awesome! No clicks or random sounds - even when going over super bumpy roads and taking curbs. it's super sturdy and light. Rides like straight butter. Didn't really think it'd be this happy with it, but I definitely as. Steel is indeed real.

I just hit 1k miles on the Thunder I bought in the fall (delivered in November) and I can’t say enough good things about this bike. I rode a Classic almost exclusively for the three years before and loved it but I was looking for something a little more ‘capable’. Something that could take wider tires, had mounts for fenders/racks, and could handle the dirt and rough paved roads we have up here in rural Maine. After its first New England winter I can say that this bike has been through it all. Different road conditions, weather conditions, and it has handled them all extremely well. In 1000 miles the longest single ride I’ve been on was 70 miles but there have been a bunch in the 20-50 mile range and while the Thunder is plenty capable as a sturdy townie/commuter/grocery getter, I'd say it really shines on those longer rides in terms of comfort and stability. I’m really look forward to getting out for more of those in the warmer months ahead! The only changes I’ve made to the stock components other than ordering it with the Brooks C17 saddle, have been to swap out the bars to some old Cow Chippers and replace the tires, and everything is still cranking away with no issues. (As a further testament to the component set, I put thousands of miles on my Classic with virtually the same component set, never having to replace a thing.) The wide clearance has given me the ability to run a pair of 43mm Gravel King SS with SKS Edge AL 46 fenders, admittedly undersized for the tires, which has been a real game changer for the sloppy winter weather and in terms of overall ride comfort. If you’re looking for a single speed that can do it all you really can’t go wrong with the Thunder. Great quality, great looks, great ride!
