Description
NOTE: Sugino has discontinued this as a crankset so it is no longer available. If interested, it can be built up out of parts. Contact us for more information.
Coming from legendary Japanese manufacturer Sugino, the RD2 is their entry-level track crankset with a 48t 3/32" chainring.
The RD2 Messenger is a good mid-level single speed/ fixed gear crankset that fits most frames, including conversions (with wider bottom bracket spindles).
Cold forged alloy arms and aluminum chain ring will work for most riders - especially those not needing or wanting to upgrade to the pricer track-specific 75. Given it is a converted road crankset, it also has a wider Q-factor to work with lots of different frames (including the Wabi Classic and Thunder).
Specs:
- Chainring BCD: 130
- Chainring Teeth: 48T
- Drivetrain Speeds: Single Speed 1/8"
- Spindle Interface Type: Square Taper JIS
- Bottom bracket length: 103mm
- Weight: ~565g
- Chainline : 45mm
Notes
This is a 3/32" chainring, but that means it also still works for a 1/8" chain too.
This crankset takes a JIS square taper 103mm bottom bracket, which is not included. However, you can add the Sugino BB3 (but don't use the incompatible Sugino 75 BB) or a Tange bottom bracket as options.
The RD2 and the RD2 Messenger differ by their chain ring. The Messenger has a 165mm crank arms and has a stiffer 1/8" 46T disc-type chainring (which also makes it more expensive) while the RD2 has a 165mm or 170m crankarm and the 3/32" 48T classic style chainring.
Please check here for crankset compatibility with Wabi models.
